mini project - Jolly Devil Gifting

Client Work // One of the identified user problems that come with getting a tattoo is the cost.

After a discussion with the client, a gifting system was thought to be the most pragmatic solution.

Being Transported on the River Styx

In Greek mythology, Charon ferried the dead to the underworld just as this gift will ferry people to the Jolly Devil.

More Physical

Due to the price of tattoos, I feel as though the gift needs to be more than just a voucher.

Minimal Exterior

The interior of the Jolly Devil is full of bright reds and greens so I feel a minimal approach would be more aesthetic.

Ideation

Sketching

Modelling

Building on the concepts in the sketching phase, which was based on the idea of a trip to the underworld. A single coin was used as a stand-in for a normal gift card experience.

Testing

Concept Evaluation

Pros

-  The concept was interesting and different, they liked the different interactions when compared to other gift cards.

-  The box felt, ‘satisfyingly weighty’, and well put together a ‘sturdy and high-quality build’.

-  They liked the ‘layered gifting experience’, with different things to open and uncover.

Cons

-  Due to how the design was constructed people did not explore after the initial coin/scroll discovery.

-  The users felt as though the design did not reflect The Jolly Devil enough.

-  The users did not immediately connect the coin with a trip to the underworld. However, they thought it to be an interesting concept nonetheless.

Coffee in the Cold

Personal Project // The café I am working at is experiencing reduced revenue as it transitions from summer to winter for the first time.

The goal of this project is to increase revenue by reaching a new target audience.
